“Incoming Site News! Read More!!!!”
Welcome back Friends! This is of course HatchetRadio giving you guys a bit of news from us, about us, for us today. We have some events coming up really soon we’re looking forward to getting into in a smaller post. However we wanted to address comments that are pouring in from across the world about what is going on with us. Where are we at. Rick O of course earlier addressed those in his own statements, and we do confirm that what he was expressing at the time was indeed fact. We have had no intentions of moving back to a live 24/7 format, or being a place where you could hear your Favorite DJ’s again, and every thing stated is indeed fact. We don’t intend to bring back 24/7 Live Formats. It’s not feasible for long term production standards, and from a voluntary standpoint, it’s rough on the talent who does put in the time and effort to display their passion and skills for their own brand. You see the writing on the wall, and it was hide time we kind of took a backseat for a minute.
Now one thing Rick O didn’t touch on was the fact that even though there hasn’t been live presence on the station, doesn’t take away from what we’ve done for years and how we’ve done it. It would be a gross understatement to say that we’ve not been up and running for 23 years. In 23 years I can count 6 months that HatchetRadio was not online and it was not under the current owners management, as they had put another team in charge of the station while the owners were either in college, moving around, or dealing with personal issues that life sometimes throws at you. In lieu of that statement, the people who were put in charge during that time DID in fact remove the website for 3 months, and were in the process of remodelling and redesigning HatchetRadio with the intention of pulling HatchetRadio out of the Underground and attempting to silently push for more mainstream talent to be pushed on the air with the full intention of taking HatchetRadio and monetizing it for their own personal use.
In light of that situation, The Network owners met in silent, and decided that this was not the direction that we had created the station for. We had full intention of keeping the station up and running for the masses to represent artists who at a time, could not represent themselves. Did not have a platform to put their music on, or to speak on, or to rely on getting information out to their fans. It was our directive to NEVER take away from the fan experience, and to enhance the artists options of what little they did, and even to this day still do have. Before YouTube, or Twitch, or SoundCloud, or Spotify, there was HatchetRadio. 23 years of keeping it Underground as much as we could without straying too far away from our roots and we’ve surely done that for ourselves. The immediate reaction was to try to salvage the operation with the explanation as to why we created HatchetRadio.
Their financial backing understood where we firmly planted our feet, and from that moment on pulled out of the project ultimately. 2 of the other members of leadership had a conversation with the people that were left in charge, and the other had a conversation with the staff, and in short they were given the exact formula that HatchetRadio was going to run off of from the words of the original owners Trey, Adam, & Rick O, and told that if it was going to be a situation for them and their shows and brands that we could point them out to a new home that would help them get up and running. Our formatted formula was NOT going to change when it came to the music that we were steadfast representing.
When the meetings were done, ultimately the management in charge walked, as was expected with about 1/4 of the staff behind them to go start a project of their own with the same idealism behind it(Which ultimately never got off the ground due to Licensing Rights, which we already explained to them in previous meetings). The ones who stayed behind were welcomed within 3 days to a fully built maintained and up to date modern website courtesy of Adam & Rick O working together, they were given a format to stick by, and people from the group were chose to stay to run the station for another 5 years with 24/7 Open Format without any creative differences between the owners, and management. Rarely did ANY of the owners have to get involved with the staff issues during that era. Alot of folks considered it to be our Golden Era, because again there wasn’t much, and from 2009-2013 were the most creative years of HatchetRadio Staff. The management during that era was superb, and the staff of that era were simply amazing to work with on a personal level from some many of the owners. We would just ask and they would give without error. So we had a lot going for us once they knew what we wanted.
The next part of the story gets a bit more convoluted by speculation & misinformation which goes from 2013-2020, which is where a lot of people get confused with the two eras, because yes from 2007-2009 there was some friction on the station, Owners, Management Former & Current can attest to the situation, but the shows went on. The misinformation was because some of those who left during that era went to other websites, and of course wrote biast opinions on how our radio station was defunct, and we’d catch wind, and contact them with accurate information to have it changed by the editorial staff, which wasn’t a big ordeal, but when you run something and you care for it, and it gets a little dirt on it, you tend to clean it up by talking to folks. We were very sharp with defending our staff, our station, and our reputation of being the 1st Underground Station on the Internet and to do this day we still are, and now the Oldest. So what essentially happened was word broke to some major sites that we had broken up which was a little disheartening, because fans would read their news, and then come to us with what was said, or we would visit them frequently because we had a partnership with them, and read these really out of sync stories. So we just handled it.
In 2011 we started to see there was writing on the wall. MySpace had pretty much came and went, FaceBook was taking over and it was becoming popular but also strict, YouTube was a new platform, Smart Phones were killing it in sales, and High Speed Internet Service was readily available almost everywhere across the country for the most part. We knew that within 2 years our format would be somewhat phased out just because tech had finally caught up to us in the rat race that is the IT world. Our Staff of over 75 in 2009 dwindled to 3 Owners, One Manager, One Booker, 5 Shows and 25 Talented folks, and they really cemented their shows together during that era which what was becoming todays modern day format for podcasting. In 2011 Rick O was invited to join an Indie Republic Network Show on EventLevel called “The Main Event Show” which was a HUGE success for the panel. It was one of the first shows of it’s kind which featured over 8 Hosts from 6 different networks across the world having a fun conversation each week about events, music, life, sports. It began to form what is now known today as the HatchetRadio Network, but then it was just something we were dipping our toes in because, stations didn’t really work together much on the internet. Especially bigger ones, including us, which was an ego-flaw on our end, and of course naturally everyone elses. Your Brand is You.. People are protective, and so it was unheard of to mix brands. We did it with success the chemistry was well, and we started a sub era from 2011-2017. We call the “EventLevel/Whoobazoo/HatchetRadio Era”. This was the Indie Republic Network. These main stations and some sub stations that were ultimately cast.
So to keep this pretty simple, we’re going to change the website up a little bit. Do different things with it. We have always loved our look. I know people judge it, but it works for mobile and it works for PC, and it works for Tablet, and it works for everything else out there. What we’re attempting to do is reorganize the way we do things. I think it’s safe to say that it’s just going to be a very few of us doing what we do here with the posting, but we’re really going to deep dive into blogging, talking about different aspect, bringing in reviews for things we do, and also talking about our experiences in our own strange ways.
So in Short, you can expect the return of Rick O, he’s on his way back from being deported from Mexico back to the United States. Apparently something went on we’ll have more information when we talk to him. He has an interview on Turnbuckles & Spilt Liquor June 10th at 9:30p EST.
